How do you handle anger? Everyone gets angry from time to time, and for many different reasons.

The question isn’t whether or not you get angry, but what you do with your emotions. Do you let your temper run out of control? If so, you will cause a lot of pain to the people you care about.

These verses will give us spiritual weapons to use to become patient, self-controlled and understanding instead of quick-tempered.

Proverbs 17:14 NCV
Starting a quarrel is like a leak in a dam, so stop it before a fight breaks out.

Proverbs 17:1 NCV
It is better to eat a dry crust of bread in peace than to have a feast where there is quarreling.

Proverbs 16:32 NCV
Patience is better than strength. Controlling your temper is better than capturing a city.

James 1:19-21 NCV
[19] My dear brothers and sisters, always be willing to listen and slow to speak. Do not become angry easily, [20] because anger will not help you live the right kind of life God wants. [21] So put out of your life every evil thing and every kind of wrong. Then in gentleness accept God’s teaching that is planted in your hearts, which can save you.

Proverbs 14:29 NCV
Patient people have great understanding, but people with quick tempers show their foolishness.

Proverbs 14:17 NCV
Someone with a quick temper does foolish things, but someone with understanding remains calm.

Proverbs 19:19 NCV
People with quick tempers will have to pay for it. If you help them out once, you will have to do it again.

Proverbs 29:22 NCV
An angry person causes trouble; a person with a quick temper sins a lot.

Galatians 5:22-23 NCV
[22] But the Spirit produces the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, [23] gentleness, self-control. There is no law that says these things are wrong.

2 Timothy 1:7 NCV
God did not give us a spirit that makes us afraid but a spirit of power and love and self-control.

Proverbs 1:3 NCV
They will teach you how to be wise and self-controlled and will teach you to do what is honest and fair and right.

Proverbs 23:23 NCV
Learn the truth and never reject it. Get wisdom, self-control, and understanding.

Romans 6:12 NCV
So, do not let sin control your life here on earth so that you do what your sinful self wants to do.

Romans 8:6 NCV
If people’s thinking is controlled by the sinful self, there is death. But if their thinking is controlled by the Spirit, there is life and peace.

Romans 8:9 NCV
But you are not ruled by your sinful selves. You are ruled by the Spirit, if that Spirit of God really lives in you. But the person who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to Christ.
