Discover Your Destiny

When you are just trying to survive your day or it feels like you are living the same day over and over again it is hard to think your life has great purpose.  What does your life bring to others around you? Whose life are you meant to change?  How do you get out of the mundane to find meaning?  Here are three sure-fire ways to find meaning to your life

Have Friends in High Places

When you are around influential people you have a chance to influence them. How do you get around influential people? If you are a student on campus, it is the leader in class, the team captain, the class president. At work it’s your boss, their boss, decision makers, leaders.

When Esther’s turn came to go to the king, she asked only for what the king’s eunuch Hegai, the guardian of the women, advised. Everyone who saw Esther liked her. So Esther was taken to King Xerxes in his royal palace in the month of Tebeth, the tenth month, in the seventh year of his reign. Now, the king loved Esther more than all the other women and favored her over all the other virgins. So he put the royal crown on her head and made her queen instead of Vashti. Then the king held a great banquet for Esther. He invited all his officials and his advisers. He also declared that day a holiday in the provinces, and he handed out gifts from his royal generosity.

Esther 2:15-18

Esther found favor with a king and she got to be around him and all the important people in his palace.  Just being there gave her an opportunity to be in the right place at the right time.

Turn Crisis into Opportunity

Unexpected things happen in our lives.  We get into trouble, our friends and family get into trouble or tragedy strikes without warning. How you respond and what you do next is what makes all the difference.  Taking opportunities doesn’t always feel comfortable, in fact it may scare you, but regardless of what comes your way, if you decide to embrace the challenge and do something about it, you can change it around.

Mordecai sent this answer back to Esther, “Do not imagine that just because you are in the king’s palace you will be any safer than all the rest of the Jews. The fact is, even if you remain silent now, someone else will help and rescue the Jews, but you and your relatives will die. And who knows, you may have gained your royal position for a time like this.”

Esther sent this reply back to Mordecai, “Assemble all the Jews in Susa. Fast for me: Do not eat or drink at all for three entire days. My servants and I will also fast. After that, I will go to the king, even if it is against a royal decree. If I die, I die.”

Esther 4:13-16

After hearing her and all her people were doomed to die Esther didn’t see the opportunity to do good.  If it wasn’t for her Uncle who encouraged her to do the right thing, she wouldn’t have changed her life and the life of her people.

Stand Up For What’s Right

When you stand up for what is right it might not be the popular choice.  Sometimes you are risking other people not liking you or being happy with you.  Sometimes we need to ask for help or forgiveness.  Standing up for what is right is doing the right thing no matter what it means for you.  You might not feel good or get a good reaction to start, but every time you stand for something good, you are building a good life.

Then Queen Esther answered, “If I have found favor with you, Your Majesty, and if it pleases you, Your Majesty, spare my life. That is my request. And spare the life of my people. That is what I ask for. You see, we—my people and I—have been sold so that we can be wiped out, killed, and destroyed. If our men and women had only been sold as slaves, I would have kept silent because the enemy is not worth troubling you about, Your Majesty.”

Esther 7:3-4

Esther stood up to the customs of the time and asked the king for a favor…to spare her life and her people! Her speaking up to the king and telling him the truth of her heritage took courage and it changed her destiny and the destiny of her people.

Your destiny is in your hands.  It doesn’t take much to change who you are and what you will be known for.  If you decide to be influential, change the negative into positive and stand up for others, your destiny will find you!
