We have spoken freely to you, Corinthians; our heart is wide open. You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted in your own affections. In return (I speak as to children) widen your hearts also.

2 Corinthians 6:11-13

Make room in your hearts for us. We have wronged no one, we have corrupted no one, we have taken advantage of no one.

2 Corinthians 7:2

We often encouraged to “open wide” at the dentist. He/she needs more room to maneuver in our mouths. When it comes to doing good, our hearts have to get bigger too. We need to make more room so that God can maneuver. Despite that fact that there was tension between Paul and the Corinthian church, he still gave them his heart and he expected them to do the same.

Giving, loving, serving and doing good cannot be circumstantial and may not even feel comfortable at first. But we cannot hold back our hearts (be restricted in our affections) and wait until everything feels right. Doing good has to become who we are, not just what we do from time-to-time. It is part of our daily walk as disciples.

Does your weekly schedule reflect time for other people outside your household? Is there time for Bible studies? Time to spend with friends? Or does your heart/life need to be “widened” a bit?

What do you enjoy doing? Can you take that hobby/desire/pursuit and use it to do good? Can you do what you enjoy and also use it to impact others?

This is a post in a series called “15 Days to Become a Force For Good,” which is a follow up to our 2017 Expo.
